Planina returns to CU-Boulder for the CU Slavic Spring Festival on Friday, April 17! This is a family and community event, free and open to the public.
Presented by UC-Boulder's Germanic and Slavic Languages Department, this annual festival brings together traditional music and food to celebrate spring. Bliny (crepes) with various toppings will be served.
Planina will sing songs from Ukraine, Russia, Bulgaria, Poland, Serbia, and other Eastern European traditions. A few songs represent a tradition in which women and girls would sing to "call in the spring and see winter off.” Other songs are accompanied by violin, accordion, bass, drum, or tambourine. Kids and adults alike are invited to dance to some simple dance-game tunes.
Snow is predicted for Friday! So the event, which would have been outdoors if the weather were better, will be moving inside, to Hellems E210. The Hellems Arts and Sciences building is close to Broadway and 15th Street. It is near The Hill and near the UMC (Student Union). There is paid parking in the Euclid Parking Garage (underground) east of the UMC, and across Broadway on the Hill. Here's the interactive campus map. Here's a link to an interactive campus map
